How Our Boots Are Made

WD boots are all made by hand in our workshop in Chile’s capital, Santiago. They begin as large sides of the best Argentine leather and, after a painstaking process, end up as works of art made for a specific rider.

The process starts when one of us or one of our representatives in other countries takes your measurements. Your order is quickly sent to our workshop where highly-experienced craftsmen begin to create your boots.

CREATING THE BOOTS

Once an order is received, the first step in creating your boots is making the model. Using the measurements taken by our trained representatives, the modeler creates a physical representation of the boot.
Then, the leather is chosen for that pair of boots. Since we use only the best parts of a hide, normally only two pairs of boots can be made from an entire hide.

After a hide is chosen, the leather cutter inspects it for blemishes and cuts the leather according to the model.

At this point, our craftsmen begin to assemble the various pieces of leather. Linings are cut and applied, zippers sewn in, and vamps and uppers united during this stage of the process.

Following the upper assembly, the vamp of the boot—the part that goes over the rider’s foot—is formed to a faux foot, called a “last.” The sole of the boot is cemented and sown while the vamp is stretched over the last.

During this part of the process, the toe reinforcement and heel counter are added, followed by the heel itself.

Finally, the leather is cleaned and polish applied. Now the boots are ready to be enjoyed by a rider from Chile, Spain, the United States, or one of many other countries around the world!
